Nashville, TN (September 7, 2011) – Doyle Lawson has been nominated in two categories in the upcoming 17th Annual Inspirational Country Music (ICM) Awards to be held in Nashville at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center on October 28, 2011. Lawson was nominated individually for Musician of the Year, and with his band Quicksilver for Inspirational Bluegrass Artist of the Year.
The Awards event will be the finale of ICM Faith, Family & Country Week to be held at Nashville’s Millenium Maxwell House Hotel during the week of October 24-28, 2011. The week’s activities will be a mix of music showcases and seminars.
Final nominees for the Awards were announced on August 31, after a round of voting by ICM members during the month of August narrowed the field of 10 nominees in each of 22 categories down to the Final Top Five, from which the winners will be chosen by ballot in voting ending September 30.
Lawson is in sterling company, as other artists nominated for ICM Awards include country mega-stars George Strait, Carrie Underwood, and Dolly Parton.

Doyle is looking for an authentic country store in the northeast TN or Nashville area. Can anybody help us? A picture or website is helpful.
There is a Mast General Store in Knoxville, TN. It is on Gay Street near the Tennessee Theater where Doyle played a few years ago.
There is a small country store in Greeneville TN in Rheatown. They play bluegrass every Saturday night. Hunter Berry played there years ago before he was a well-known player. Here’s an article on it. I couldn’t find a picture and doubt seriously they have a website. http://www.pioneerfrontier.org/?p=2235
Historic Greenmount Grocery, est 1937. Greenmount, Laurel County, KY. Just took some pics today to send to you… excited for you to see!
It is not very far from Northeast TN & one you might familiar with. The Mast General Store is in Valle Crucis, NC not far from Boone.

Dannie, Mast General Store is a little too comercialized for what Doyle needs. Thanks and keep looking!
I can certainly understand that Suzanne. The only other place I thought of is Memory Lane in Rogersville, TN. It is a privately owned town that has an old general store that is fully stocked as it would have been many many years ago. Doyle probably is already aware of this place since it is located near Caney Creek.

Doyle & I visited Memory Lane, Dannie. I took a little video footage of the store & sent it on to the company shooting the vide. They approved MemoryLane for the shoot. Thank you again for the info.
Glad I could help Suzanne. I look forward to seeing the video.
Actually, I found their page on Facebook and it has a picture of the store. Rheatown Market and Cafe.
Vicki, I looked on facebook and it says they ceased opperation in April of this year at the Rheatown Market & Cafe.
DL&Q – Fantastic service @ Zion Mennonite Church last sunday PM. It just keeps getting better. I heard Doyle say @ the BG & Chili Festival ( & on “Old Friends …”)about Jimmy Martin showing him proper wrist position. Would Doyle relay that technique ? I’ve taken up that sublime florentine thingy, but unlike the “nudied-up” master, i really need to take notes. LOL ….also got to speak briefly w/ Josh about his Tilton Bar & request he forward that info. I would speak to all of you guys …just hoping some of that amazing talent would rub off…God Bless’s Us All & God Speed.
If the Paramount approves DL&Q, tickets will go on sale September 28th for their annual concert on December 3rd.
Paramount tickets go on sale Tuesday October 4th at 9AM or online at theparamountcenter.com
Dear Sir/Madam,
Greetings from the Pearl of Africa. I am a missionary in Uganda E. Africa and have established several Christian Radio Stations throughout the country. We do not make any money on our stations. It is completely used for spreading the gospel. We have received some of your music “A school of bluegrass, Gospel Parade, Hallaluja in my Heart, He lives in me, and Crossroads” and we would like to play these on our radio stations. We only play music that we have been given permission to play for the glory of God. We are asking for your permission to play your music on “any of the stations affiliated with BIMU”. We play most of the same music on all of our stations we have started throughout Uganda, so by declaring that “any of the stations associated with BIMU would be granted permission” (that is our official designation here in Uganda, Baptist International Mission of Uganda). If this is possible could you email us a letter to that effect with blanket coverage for all stations in one letter?
We do not reproduce the music for anyone. We only play it on the radio stations. People are getting saved weekly through the radio here. We have Life Radio here in Mbarara, Word of Life in Masaka, Way of Life in Kanungu, Calvary Radio in Soroti, and my son Andrew will have Truth Radio on the air in 3 weeks. We only play conservative Christian music on our radios. We just turned over 3 more churches that have been started from the radio ministry here in Mbarara. We have 3 more that should be turned over by the end of the year.
If you have other music you feel that would be good for our listeners we would appreciate any help we can get in reaching souls for Christ.
If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask. Lord Bless You All. Thank you for all of your service for our Lord through these years.
Drums, why? You have been the most successful
Traditional, bluegrass group of all time. It ain’t broke
Don’t fix it. Drums aren’t bluegrass!!!! Remember
What happened to Scruggs when he w ent progressive
There are enough progressive groups. Keep it real.!!!!!!
My family has every album you ever recorded and ectremely
Disappointed with the use of drums on “Drive Time”.
Doyle,
Drums, why? You have been the most successful, traditional bluegrass group of all time. Why change now?
My family has every thing you ever recorded and
were very disappointed with “Drive Time” and the use
of drums. There are enough progressive groups out there
And not many traditional ones left. Keep it real!!!
Remember what happened when Scruggs tried to go
progressive.
Laverne, thanks for your comments regarding my use of drums. Drums have been a part of our music since the 1950′s. Most all of the pioneering artist, including Mr Monroe, used them on their recordings from time to time. Some used them more than others. You can hear them on “The Stanley Brothers” recording of Careless Love quite clearly. There was also use of the electric bass in the early days as well. Some chose to carry them on a permanent base, but quite honestly it was a matter of economics as to whether they did or didn’t . My first job as a pro was playing Banjo for Jimmy Martin and His Sunny Mtn. Boys. He carried a snare drummer. He became known as The King Of Bluegrass. For our music to survive,it has to grow,be introduced to people outside the boundries some folks try to set for our music. My hope is to try and get some attention elsewhere and get them to come and listen to all of this wonderful music we call Bluegrass . I fell in love with this music when I heard Bill Monroe on The Grand Ole Opry and my passion for this music has not diminished one bit. It’s ironic that when I formed my group 32 yrs. ago, they labeled me as contemporary. My approach to the music today is pretty much what it was then, yet they labl me as traditional. You see how things change yet remain the same? Bill Monroe had a vision that was somewhat different than his peers of the day.The point is,he wasn’t afreaid to step out of the box. Neither was the folks who followed after him. All with a little different approach to the music. My goal is to carry on that tradition of exploration until I play my last note. Thank you for caring enough to write.
Drums bring people to rock and country
Love of banjos, fiddles, and mandolins brings
Them to bluegrass.
Laverne, hearing drums on the early bluegrass recordings and “live” shows didn’t detract from the music for me at all.Even though I heard them, I still wanted to play the acoustic stinged instruments. Drums are simply to add to the rhythm section .It helps to enhance the bass on the bottom end. In the end though, it’s a matter of what is best suited for one’s listening pleasure. We all don’t have the same preferences and I most certainly understand that .

‘Love on te run’, and I like it very much. The drums are a welcome addition to the DLQ-sound!
I believe this is absolutely true. It’s fine to hew to tradition and play the standards, but we have to allow for growth too. While it’s nice that we can do without drums, drums DO have a place in acoustic music.

To those of you who have wondered where JD was when we won the 2nd award, well here goes, he was at Demo’s Italian having dinner. He said that after we had won the one he figured that was it and didn’t see either Paul or me to tell us where he was going. Said his stomach was growling so loud while we were doing our song he thought it was gonna make the banjo mic feed back.haha. That’s JD for you ,he has always been able to keep me laughing.
