Dieter, Birgit, Suzanne, Suzi and Sister (l to r)

We had a real treat yesterday at church.  Dieter and Birgit Stoll (Horse Mountain) from Germany visited with us and played our Offertory and Special music during Sunday morning worship.  They are here in the TN/NC area visiting for a couple of weeks before heading to Wilkesboro for Merlefest.  They played a couple of songs on Thursday at the Pickin’ Porch here in Bristol, and again at the Carter Fold on Saturday night.  It’s always great to meet new people who share our love of music and these folks are really special!  They started their trip in Memphis, and were in Nashville before heading to East Tennessee, the REAL Birthplace of Country Music.  Imagine traveling all the way from Germany because you love the music, when some of us won’t drive 20 miles!  This is their second trip to the States in 2 years.  Dieter is an accomplished guitar player, Birgit a fine bass player, and they both have really good voices.  At church yesterday, they played the Carter song, “The Gospel Ship  “, and “By the Mark” (Gillian Welch).  Our family at Cold Spring really enjoyed having them, it was a nice change from our little choir!  We really appreciate that they took time from their trip to visit with us.  After church, we went to a local Greek place and had lunch, then they were on their way to Greeneville, TN.   In the photo above, that’s Dieter on the left, then Birgit, Suzanne, Suzi and me, on the right.

  4. I just wanted to let you know that as my father-in-law laid on his deathbed last Wednesday, unresponsive to any speech or gestures from anyone in our family due to his condition, I decided to play your music on a laptop, and he immediately twitched his fingers and tried his best to move his lips to your songs. I regret that we have lost one of your biggest fans, but at the same time, please know that he happiest moments were listening to your music. With the most sincere appreciation, thank you!

  8. There was a huge crowd of people at Visitation last night. A bus load of our church family came from Cold Spring, and we got to see friends that we haven’t seen in a bit. Please pray for Doyle today. I know he is comforted by having so many good friends surrounding him. A cloud of witnesses! We are looking forward to Preacher Dale bringing us the Word at Mrs. Minnie’s service this afternoon. Thank you to everyone who came last night. Suzanne said it really touched their hearts.

  9. Even when a loved one’s home-going is not sudden, their physical absence from this earth leaves a hole in the world. What a wonderful blessing it is to be surrounded by family and friends at such a time. What a testament to a love that has no end. As my family and I were comforted in our recent loss, I hope you, too, can remember that The Best Is (indeed) Yet To Come!

    Best to you all,
    Audrey Evans

  10. We’re so sad to hear of your mom’s homegoing, but she now has a brand new body and she’s singing and rejoicing in the Savior’s presence!!!
