Sing Me a Song About Jesus is something Doyle Lawson has always done. He’s always remained true to his convictions of the importance of Gospel music in his live shows and recordings. He has taken Gospel music to the highways and the hedges all along his musical path.
Doyle shares why: “I believe in what I am singing about! I think we need to sing more songs about Jesus. Look at the gift He gave us—LIFE EVERLASTING!”
This message is delivered by a masterful band of musicians and vocalists. The super picking in “The Rich Man” and the title track reminds us why Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver is a musical force to be reckoned with. The vocal arrangements on “I Saw Him Walk out of the Sky” and the two a cappella songs remind us why they are the seven-time IBMA Vocal Group of the Year.
Album available now in our store and at CrossroadsMusic.com.

Doyle: Great looking site. I have decided to sell my D-35 and wanted to let you know. You played it many years ago at The Birchmere. I made Robbie a fishing rod around that time. Regards, John Bumstead

I just wanted to let you all know that I am so delighted to hear that Joe Dean Jr. is coming aboard!! Can’t wait to hear that drving banjo along with the new sound! It’s is kind of funny that the anouncement came on opening day of the 2012 baseball season — lol!!!
When is he coming?……where is Jesse going? Who in going to Dailey and Vincent to replace Joe?
Hey Doyle,
David and I have followed you for about 30 some years. I wanted to let you know thatDavid went on to his home in Heaven on 1/29/2012. I miss him terribly. He was only 57 and we were married 30 years. I live in Mosheim and had only been over here with him for 4 months.
I hope to see you in Hominy Valley this year.

Hey… I have another verse for “Help is on the way”…
- A boy had many brothers, his father loved him best;
- His coat of many colors was not like all the rest;
- They sold him into slavery, they thought he’d gone to stay;
- But he kept his eye on heaven ’cause help was on the way;
You may use at your discretion…
I love your music…

trying to find information about the show at Big Walnut High School this Saturday …. for two weeks now, every time I click on “buy tickets” it does not work … and to try and call the high school for information is a joke, a full hour yesterday and I could not get to a human being, no matter which selection you made from the main menu it just kept sending you back to main menu.
If tickets are available at the door, then you should tell us that on the web site, I am forced with deciding to drive the hour to get there and hope I can get in, or not go at all.
The tickets for this show are only available at the door. I’m sorry I should have noticed that on the website and I didn’t!
Doyle: just found your website…very impressive. I saw you for the first time at the 2011 Fall Homecoming and was completely blown away…purchased several of your CDs over at your tent. I am overjoyed to see that you are on the 2012 Fall Homecoming Schedule. By the way, you guys are real road warriors…what a schedule you keep. I will be retiring in September, but it doesn’t look like you are contemplating that anytime soon. I know your faith gives you the strength to keep going and taking your wonderful music to all your fans throughout the country. God bless you!

Your English is just fine, Harold!
Glad you like the new album!
Good afternoon, everyone! I just wanted to drop you all a note to tell you how much your music has meant to me over the years, and how much it means to me still. I’ve seen two shows in Virginia within the last 3 weeks, and couldn’t be happier with both the music and the message as you share your talents with an audience.
That said, a little over 2 weeks ago, my 28-year-old nephew was killed in a tragic accident, leaving behind a pregnant wife and a 2-year-old. His father, my brother, chose ‘The Best Is Yet To Come’ to have played at Steven’s funeral. I tell you this NOT in a bid for sympathy, but to let you know how comforting and uplifting that song was to a packed church. It was one of my favorite songs on the Gospel Parade album anyway, and it was such a blessing to be able to use it in the service. Thank you for recording such a lovely song. It will continue to be of comfort to us all as we continue to adjust to Steven’s untimely passing.

There is a bit of confusion about the upcoming DOYLE LAWSON & QUICKSILVER BLUEGRASS SCRAMBLE Golf Tournament at DENTON, NC in May. The tournament is scheduled for Tot Hill Farm, not the Asheboro Country Club. Flyers have been mailed with the wrong info, but it looks like ads in magazines are correct. Doyle is looking forward to this new course! Lee Campbell is, too!
We just love the song Rich man on your new cd and also God Can., All the songs are great, we just love you all . Keep up up the good work you are doing God Bless
This is too funny…Doyle just came in and told me the funniest story. They are leaving for Kansas City, MO this morning, and when they started up the bus, it seemed a lot louder than usual. There is an extra door on the side of the building here, and when I looked at it, it wasn’t closed all the way. Someone had tried to break in and had jimmied the dead bolt, so it wasn’t latched. More noise was coming in! Luckily, there are two other locks on the door and they weren’t successful breaking in. Anyway, Doyle came in just now and said they were about ready to leave, so I said “Eat some barbeque” or whatever the “food” is in Kansas City. We couldn’t either one think of what food Kansas City, MO is famous for but Doyle said that when he was first playing for Jimmy Martin, they played a week at the Chestnut Inn, in Kansas City, MO. They were fronting for some country star, and traveling in Jimmy’s big Cadillac. One if the first days they were there, someone stole the tail lights off the Cadillac. Doyle said Jimmy made a theft report to the police, and asked them what he should do about not having tail lights. The police told him just to go ahead and drive without them for a few days, and if he got stopped, to explain what had happened. Late in the week, Jimmy got a call that the police had recovered a set of Cadillac tail lights, and that he should come down and try to identify them. Doyle said they all went down to the station and when the policeman showed Jimmy the tail lights, Jimmy immediately said they were the ones off his car. When the policeman asked Jimmy how he knew they were his tail lights, Jimmy answered, “How do you know they aren’t?” The policeman gave Jimmy the lights!
Dear Mr. Lawson,
On March 3, my family attended our third Bluegrass Festival in Fulton, Mississippi. At the end of your performace, I introduced you to my 13 year old nephew, Zach. You gave in some very encouraging words about learning the banjo. I simply wanted to let you know your words of encouragement sunk in. My nephew competed in his middle school talent contest two weeks ago and out of 21 contestants, my nephew took first place. We were all so proud of him, proud of his interest in bluegrass gospel music, but most of all thankful for God blessing Zach with such a great talent. . . . music. Look forward to seeing all of you next year in Fulton, Mississippi.
Cherie, glad to hear the good news. Thanks for sharing that with me. Give my best to Zach and tell him that I’m proud of him.

I saw where jesse baker is moving to dailey vincent, how much does it affect the band when you bring in a new banjo player, and who will the banjo player be?
Scott, it’s just a matter of getting accustomed to a new member on stage with us. It doesn’t take long at all . The new member gets a set list to work with and then we fine tune it with rehearsal.
Why does Doyle not use a stand up bass rather than an electric bass? Bluegrass is suppose to be played with non electric instruments. You can tell the difference in the sound of the bass. Also allowing a drum in the band is a total disgrace for bluegrass music. Something I thought I would never see. Ask Paul Williams if he will ever have electric instruments in his group. He stated to me never. It is a slap in the mouth and disrespectful to the history of bluegrass.
The band has had an acoustic bass at times, and electric at other times. It’s certainly easier to haul around an electric bass, and a lot depends on the bass player, his preference, and such. If you will look back, you will find that several of the original bluegrass groups had a drum in their performances at times. I guess that carried over from the country music roots. I know Paul has a distinct way he wants his group to sound, and so does Doyle. Though those sounds are not the same, each of them has an idea of what works for them, and they are both right. I personally think that DL&Q’s current sound is a bit more progressive than it has been in the past. Doyle has been at this for many, many years, and likes to try new things. Change is hard for some folks.
Ted,evidently you haven’t been looking to awfully hard. When I went to work for Jimmy Martin in Feb.,1963, he had a snare drum in the band. Kirk Hansard played it and sang bass in the quartet. Oh and Paul Williams was there as well. I respect Paul and his vision for his music and I know he feels the same about me and my perception . The Osborne Brothers carried a drummer for years . Jim and Jesse carried a drummer as well as a steel guitar for a time. Reno and Smiley had an electric guitar player for a long time who went on and played for Ernest Tubb. Flat and Scruggs recorded with drums as did The Stanley Brothers . The Stanley also recorded some with an electric bass. Bill monroe recorded with an electric guitar in the 1950′s . And you want to chastise me? I’m sorry sir,you just don’t have the right to do that.
Well Played Sir!!!!
Doyle, I’d come and see you even if you were playing the flute!!! Can’t wait till you get back out to Huck Finn in Victorville. Take care my friend and God Bless, Jesse (Mini-Mando builder) Hopkins
I liked the drums because it brought something to the show. Electric bass is good with me and I really liked some of the electric bass on earlier recordings such as “When We Meet To Part No More”. Shelton or whoever it was did a great run at the end of a chorus that just floored me. When Barry Scott was in the group and played piano in some segments, it worked, and worked well. We were all entertained by the different approaches and still are. That’s what it’s all about. They are constantly stiving for perfection and that’s what sets DLQ apart from the rest. As Doyle said in a show many years ago about why he does or requires a certain level of quality in sound and appearance, “…….maybe (you or we) should consider raising your standards. That goes for me in my work as well.
David always said that your band is the tightest on any stage now! We love your music and we would come hear you even if you played no instruments.
I just read on the Bluegrass Blog about Jessie leaving and going to Dailey & Vincent. I hate to hear this. Jessie is a great talent on the banjo as well as great stage presence. I really wish he would have stayed…
Gaither, not to worry, Jessie was a good addition and we hate to see him go. But I wish all the best. My concern now is to continue to provide the very best music that I can for the fans. I learned a long time ago that change is one that cannot be changed.
Doyle,
Here are two fans of yours who you will never find chastising you, but rather “complimenting” you on all the awesome bluegrass music you have provided for your fans over the many years. You will always find us in your cheering section. It was good seeing you in Sunbury. God’s blessings to you and each member of DL&Q!
Erv & Lenore
Lenore, thanks for the vote of confidence and your support these many years. It’s always good to see you folks and I thank you again for the western memorabilia you have brought to me over the years. Blessings

Kathy and I are planning to see ya’ll in Gainesville Saturday. Banjo or not….drum or not….haha!
I made peach “crumble” the other night with the peaches you and Kathy sent us last summer. It was wonderful! Thanks so much!
mmmmm sounds good with a little vanilla ice cream! looking forward to seeing you and Kenneth in Denton!
Who will replace Jessie?
Stay tuned – coming soon,
Hey everyone. I only met Jessie once, in Edmonton..hate to see him go. But Doyle will find another just as talented at Jessie. And here is vote #3..Mr. Lawson knows what he’s doing as far as drums and bass go..after some 30 plus years…he should. Keep up the good tunes Sir….

It is indeed a pleasure to tell you that the new banjo picker is Joe Dean. Folks I am very excited about Joe coming aboard as I have known him since he was a youngster and have watched him develop into a great musician. Joe also brings vocal and song writing abilities into the mix. All of us at DL&Q wish Jessie Baker the very best in all of his endeavors . He’s a fine musician and will contribute to any group he goes to. So we enter a new chapter in the saga of DL&Q . Welcome Joe, I can’t wait to get started on it !!
What a great announcement! I’ve heard him play and sing. I think y’all just made a fine trade!! Funny how things work out some times. All the best Doyle and we’ll be lookin for ya down the road.
I am doing the grpahics for the Dove Awards pre-show and need a hi res photo of Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver and a hi res of his album. Can you please email these to me?
Thank you

If you will click on Photos and the Press, there are several photos there to choose from. If those don’t work for you, let me know.
Today is the day that Sister was born – many centuries ago- in Pensacola, FL. I wasn’t really ready for a sister/brother and our Mama had fixed up a bedroom for the new baby. Daddy came home to tell Grandma & me that I had a new sister. While Daddy was at the hospital, I moved my 6 colored baby chickens into the baby’s bed and locked the door and wouldn’t unlock it for Grandma. She went outside and looked in the window & then called Daddy. I still wouldn’t unlock the door when Daddy got home so he took the door off the hinges, put the baby chicks back outside and Grandma cleaned the baby bed. Sister finally came home with Mama and we got along fine.
When Doyle & I had Suzi and she finally started talking, she couldn’t say Mary Jane so she started calling my sister Sister. I had called Mary Jane Sister for a long time. We used to watch the Walton’s and the two old sister’s that made the ‘recipe’ appealed to us. That’s when we started calling each other Sister. Now everyone calls her Sister.
Anyway, it’s Sister’s birthday and I hope she has many more.
Not all that many centuries ago! I can’t imagine life without Suzanne, my sister!
I hate to heat that Mr. Baker is leaving your band, but I will not let that sadden me! Change is something that everyone can adjust too. Although many people are upset, I feel that your show is about the music and not about the people in the band! Continue on with your great music and show!
My cousin, Larry Farrar, gave my son Joe his first DLQ cd back in 2001 at my my mom’s funeral. It was an all gospel cd, I can’t even remember which one. Joe had been playing guitar for a few years, but had just started playing mandolin. He was just shy of his 12 birthday. Needless to say after that my husband and I purchased every DLQ and Bluegrass Album Band cd that was available. To say Mr. Lawson inspired Joe’s love of Bluegrass music would be an understatement. He went to sleep each night and woke up each morning listening to his music. The first time we saw DLQ in a live performance was in Eminence, MO. Doyle and all the guys in the band took time to talk to us. It was a great night. We have thoroughly loved watching Joe perform with Dailey and Vincent over the past five years and we are equally excited to see what God has in store for him as he starts this new venture with Dolye Lawson and Quicksilver.
You are great Doyle
Happy belated birthday Sister. You don’t look a day over 29. Hey Doyle don’t forget the accordian Bill Monroe used in his group. I’ll echo Lee & Kathy. I’ll see you with or without drums or electric bass or whatever. Hope your golf game is in good shape ’cause the team of Forrester, Campbell, Hendrix & Red Bush (your long-lost twin) are seeking revenge. Stay safe my good friend & hi to the gang.
We love your new album! My Dad is stuck on some words he doesn’t understand though and we can’t find the lyrics anywhere. It’s from the song “I Saw Him Walk Out of the Sky”. We are having a hard time figuring out the words after “Oh the brightness around him, cannot be described, and the wonders ?????? I tried” Please help! We love to sing along, but would like to sing the right words
!
Thanks! Tonia
I have an wonderful thing to tell you about God’s provision for us. I know in my heart that He really does know every hair on my head but it’s not something I think about a lot. I sometimes just think that not “everything” that we go through needs God’s attention. I know I’m wrong thinking that and here is a good example. Doyle and Corey left on the bus yesterday morning, headed to Nashville to rehearse for a day or two and then go on to Texas. They got down about the exit where Doyle has his bus worked on and (that was the first thing) the bus overheated. Doyle pulled in at Bill’s and they worked on it and got them back on the road. By the time Doyle had driven to the next exit, the bus overheated again, and this time it was so bad that he was going to have to leave it. Suzanne had called and told me all this was going on, and I needed to send an email about someone on our prayer chain at church, so I thought I would add Doyle’s predicament to that email, since I was going to send one anyway. In my mind, it was one of those things that God didn’t need to “have His hand in”, and I knew Doyle would figure it out and rent something to get to Nashville in, or whatever, but since I was emailing anyway, I mentioned DW’s (that’s what I call Doyle)problems when I sent it out (that was the 2nd thing). By about 5:30 last night, Doyle and Corey were still stuck in Dandridge, TN, with no transport in sight, when my phone rang, and it was Danny Carty, a man I have know most of my life, and we have been church family that long too, and he happened to see the email, on his phone I guess. He was in Greeneville, TN, traveling to Nashville, in his full-size pick up, and wondered of he might be of some help to Doyle (that was the 3rd thing)! He said he knew all those guys couldn’t fit in his truck, but wanted to help DW if he could! I told him there were just 2 guys, but that they needed to take a couple of big pieces of equipment, a bunch of clothes, instruments, etc. and that I didn’t know if it would work but I called DW and he called Danny, and Danny went by and got them and took them to Nashville!(that was the 4th thing) Danny Carty was the answer to all of our prayers last evening. At Bible study last night, Suzanne was so thanful that she and others around the table were crying and sniffling…there are sometimes in my life when I see God’s hand working and it is so apparent that almost smacks me in the face. I hate that He has to get my attention like that, but I am sure glad He does. Praise God for putting Danny in the right place, with the right vehicle, with a phone that he checks email on, and with a willing, loving heart. WHO ELSE BUT GOD COULD DO ALL THAT AND HAVE IT WORK OUT RIGHT? Now, we are still praying about how DW and the guys are going to get to Texas, and I’m pretty sure Danny doesn’t have any plans to drive a bus to Austin, so would you all please pray about that?
Suzanne and I were writing these at the same time and I first took mine away, but decided to put it back. You will see that these two stories are like the difference in the Gospel accounts.
God Can – I want to tell you the latest story of DL&Q troubles and how keeping your faith allows us to see once again that God Can and does. Doyle & Corey left yesterday morning at 9AM from Bristol for Nashville. They had planned on rehearsing yesterday and today and then driving on to Austin, TX. Doyle was driving Sadie and they got to Morristown and she overheated so they were at the exit where Doyle gets Sadie serviced and they went to the garage there and Sadie was taken right on in and patched. I felt like this could have happened in the middle of nowhere but God provided. Now for the rest of the story. Doyle called about 1:30PM to say he got back on I-40 and made it to the next exit when Sadie started vibrating so he got off at the exit and stopped. The previous trouble had gotten worse and they then had to have Sadie towed back to the garage. Saide wouldn’t be taking them to Austin, TX. Doyle called me and I started trying to find Doyle, Corey and equipment a ride to Nashville. I called Sister and asked for prayer requests for Doyle & the guys. She told me later she thought, ‘well that’s not really a prayer request I send out on the church prayer email’, but then she felt led to send the email and she did. Neither Doyle nor I could find a vehicle large enough for them and their equipment to travel to Nashville that didn’t have a drop charge on it. Sister called me and said about 40 minutes after her prayer email went out, a guy, Danny, from our church called and said he was on his way to Nashville and wondered if he could help Doyle out. He had gotten the email. He was passing through Greeneville at the time in his large truck. Sister called Doyle and he called Danny. Danny picked up Doyle and Corey and their equipment and took them to Nashville. Doyle called me this morning about 1:30am. He was checked into a hotel and still didn’t have a bus to take them to Austin, TX, but they had 2 or 3 leads for today and they were hopeful.
God knows about every hair on our heads and everything that is happening in each of our lives. If we don’t lose faith, there is always hope, and know that God hears our every prayer and answers in His time, because God Can.
That is a wonderful story! God does watch over His own. Sometimes it takes a story like this to help us realize it. Sometimes we go thru troubles that we dont understand until way down the road, then we can look back and understand why we went thru what we did. He is an AWESOME God!!!!
Howdy Ya’ll!! i must admit..I TOTALLY forgot today is Doyle’s birthday..so better late than never..HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MR LAWSON… You are a messenger sent from God, helping those in need with your music and testimony. Thank you for all you do and stand for..Hope you have a great day and Suzanne made your favorite cake,,coconut I think it is..:) Take care…

Today is my Sweetheart’s birthday. I asked him last night when he called me late what he wanted for his birthday. He said he wanted to be traveling today to Austin in a bus. He is getting his wish. PTL. Happy birthday, Doyle, and when you get home next week, I will bake your birthday cake- chocolate cake with caramel frosting.
Well folks, it’s time for me to write a few words myself regarding the latest episode with “Sadie” . Over the years of running a bus for traveling I have found that it doesn’t matter if they are new, relatively new or older, they all breakdown at some point in time. I always try and keep my bus maintained and fix any potential problem there might be.
You’ve read Suzanne and Sister’s story of events occurring yesterday. Today I still hadn’t found a lease bus and was beginning to think of checking on flights to TX and back. I had spoken with a good friend of mine yesterday and he had made some calls but nothing came of it. So he calls me again this morning to see if I had found anything and I told him no but I was in Nashville still looking. The company he works for had nothing available but he said he would make another call to a fellow he had driven for some time back. He then called me back and told me it was worked out, for me to call this man and firm up all of the details. I made the call and Mr Curtsinger was very gracious and understanding of my plight. He told that me that Russ said I was a good fellow and that was good enough for him . I thank my dear friend Russ Jeffers ffrom the bottom of my heart, and all of the prayers from the brothers and sisters who know and believe as I do that God can and does hear our cries for help . He is with me through my darkest storms and lowest valleys that I face in my walk here on this earth .although I don’t know why all of this occurred, I do know there’s a reason it did. One that I will come to understand.
To end on a happy note ,had our first rehearsal with Joe today and I am well pleased. He’s a great addition. God bless all of you and to Him be he glory.
Happy birthday Mr Lawson. Though I am on a diet, I have been, and continue to be, one of your biggest fans. Oh, and I really love your music also.
I was wondering if you have ever considered doing a joint thing with Doc Watson. I believe he just turned 89 and like Earl Scruggs, who the bluegrass world recently lost, soon may not be with us.
I feel his personal life in the way he places God first mirrors yours and it would seem to me to be a great blessing hearing two solid soldiers step forward and record together.
Just a thought for your consideration.
Thank you for many years of great music and here is a wish for many more.
Happy Birthday, Young Man!!!!!
Got our tickets for Denton & Golf Tournament. We get 1 mulligan per hole per player, right, Doyle?
Doyle called early this morning to say his mother had passed from this world to a better place, Heaven. Doyle’s mother, Minnie, was 96 years old or as our Spencer would say, 96 3/4. Doyle is performing in Austin, TX today and Sunday. Arrangements are incomplete at this time. Services will be held in Sneedeville, TN sometime next week.
Our prayers go out to Mr Lawson and his family. May our gracious Heavenly Father bring you peace and ease the pain of your loss.
I would like to express my sympathy for Doyle and his family on their loss. I am sure that they can find solice in the Lord and feel confident that their faith will give them peace in this their time of grief.
So sorry to hear about about Mrs Lawson. I got to meet her at Denton a few years ago. She was a very sweet lady and Jan really enjoyed speaking with her since Mrs Lawson knew most of her family. Doyle and family will be in our prayers.
Minnie is now praising God and Jesus, face to face.God is so good to prepare for us, saved sinners a place in heaven.

Love you.

My husband and I just got back from the Old Settler’s Music Festival today. We want to thank you for two wonderful concerts. We enjoyed them both tremendously. When you sang “Precious Memories” this morning it brought tears to my eyes. It was truly beautiful and now I know just how meaningful it was for you to sing it right now with the loss of your dear mother. May you and your family’s hearts be comforted through the grace and mercy of our dear Lord and Savior, the source of true peace everlasting.
Your sister in Christ,
Jeanne
Just wondering where you guys get your new material from, and if I could submit a few songs to you. They all have country demo’s now, but you guys could make them into Bluegrass with no trouble.
Since the guys have a brand new gospel cd out, Doyle isn’t really looking for material right now. If you would like to send songs later this summer, after the busy festival season, that would be best. Snail mail address is PO Box 3141, Bristol, TN 37625, or you can email dlqkslvr@doylelawson.com.
Got the album this afternoon. I’m loving it! The acapella are the best. Maybe someday you guys can record a complete acapella album again, that would be rockin’.
All the best and God bless,
Wouter Klein,

is there another title for the song Sing me a song about Jesus?
No, that’s the correct title.
haha Sister, great story about Doyle. I can imagine to look on the policeman’s face when Doyle said that.
Looking forward to the show in Princeton! See you there Doyle and Quicksilvers…
