Watch the “Country Store” video!

Doyle and the guys shot this video at a re-created country store that has everything from penny candy to a great old hound dog on the porch.  Norwood and Yogi are “the Stars”, well, besides the dog.  It’s really great and you can watch it right here:

  1. Doyle is consistently able to not only keep great members in his group, but can always come up with outstanding arrangements of his material. No one else has ever done it better. Besides that, he is a really pleasant person to be around. His band might not always enjoy the lengthy practices, but they are what keeps them sharp, and such a pleasure to hear. Keep it up. God Bless, Wayne

  2. Still wish the Quicksilver member’s had a picture associated with their Bio’s like the one with Joe Dean’s Bio.

    • Doyle,
Thank you so much for adding the pictures of the Quicksilver band members by their Bios.
They look great and it helps us to know each of them better knowing what they look like.

  3. Well it is almost Denton time and not a word from Eddie. We are loaded this year and we are ready. Hope to see you Wednesday for the warm up round at Tot Hill.

    • Hey Lee,

I am just simply SOOOO bad at golf I don’t want to even say anything. Maybe Doyle should consider replacing me on the team. I am old, crippled and suffering from the BIG A! See you soon. Promise not to laugh at my terrible golfing skills. I plan to play Wednesday except once the guys see how bad I am they might not let me play Thursday with them.

      • I know Eddie it gets harder each year. With the young bucks out there I think you should move the 65 year olds up one tee. We can’t compete with the long knockers. I am looking forward to seeing everyone.

  4. You guys are awesome!!! Seen ya’ll at the MAC Arena in Kentucky like 10 years ago… your still amazing!! ;o)

  5. Yeah Litten, where are you??? Is your computer broken or has cindy ordered you to be civil to your lowly competition? We’ll see you guys at noon Wednesday at the OK Corral at Tot Hill; don’t forget your bullets!!!

    • Forrester. Let me think, can I even remember a Forrester? Old age and the Big A are setting in on me you know. I have no golf game and I am planning to play Wednesday but I am afraid once Doyle and the guys see how bad I am they might not let me play with them on Thursday. Maybe Joe would let me play with him and Adam but I’m afraid I might not be good enough even for them. Looking forward to seeing everyone.

  6. DL&Q will be on the Grand OL’ Opry tomorrow night. I am not sure what time they sing, but tune in and listen.

  7. Doyle should be ashamed of himself calling himself a traditionalists of bluegrass music. You don’t have a stupid electric bass and drum (give a break) in bluegrass music. What a sorry excuse of calling himself a traditionalist. You don’t see other true grass groups down grading bluegrass as he is doing. Maybe he can get a couple of rap singers to be a part of this non bluegrass group. The circus will be coming through town in a few weeks. Maybe he can pickup a few clowns then. So So sad.

    • Yet another uneducated view of bluegrass music. Folks there is no one more concerned about the state of bluegrass music than Doyle. I first began listening to Doyle in the mid 80′s and the quality and artistry is still the same high quality. Drums and the electric bass have been used in bluegrass as far back as 40 years. Listen to some of the Osborne brothers and J.D. Crowe from back in the day. Doyle, I thank God for the music you have been making for almost 4 decades with Quicksilver. It has been a crucial part of my life for 30 years. May God bless you with the ability to ignore stupid posts.

      Stacey

  8. Hey Forrester and Campbell….I am surprised Hendrix and his bride have not been all over me like Forrester and Campbell. Playing tomorrow and hope I can break 100.

    • Eddie

I have been too busy to comment. I have my clubs on E-Bay and I have been monitoring the bidding closely! I am playing terrible and it is all in the GHIN Handicap Index public record.
Kathy is injured and will not be playing unless she can be a designated 5th putter! That only seems fair with a team full of single digit handicappers on the Lawson-Litten-Whitely team!

  9. So Ted…are you a Bill Monroe fan?..J.D.Crowe fan?..Jim and Jesse fan? Give a listen..they had steel and drums long before Doyle did!! Doyle has been at this a long time..seen many changes in styles and band mambers..so I’m sure he knows what he’s doing..and being IBMA vocal group of the year should tell you something. But apparently you like his music or you wouldn’t have heard the drums..keep listening, we ALL know you will!! Keeping Alberta Quicksilvered,
    Charlie

  10. What are the songs he sang at the showv he did in ct without instruments. ,I love them and can’t find them

    • There are a couple of a cappella songs on each of the gospel cds Doyle has released, and there is one all
a cappella cd, “Heaven’s Joy Awaits” from when Russell, Ray and Scott were part of Quicksilver.

    • Debbie, We sang several accapella tunes that night in CT. They were from 3 different albums:Sing Me a Song About Jesus(our latest release) Help Is On The Way and one from a mid 90′s release titled There’s a Light Guiding Me…as sister stated, Heaven’s Joy Awaits is an all accapella recording and a darn good one at that! Hopefully this helps you! God Bless!

      • Thank you so much for answering me. Is there a recording available for that evening performance that I might purchase?

  11. Smoke is still in the air from that “Blue Train”
rolling across the stage of the “Grand Ole Opry”
    Saturday night. Loved it!!

  12. What planet did this Ted guy come from? Doesn’t even deserve a comment. Litten you have poor-mouthing down to an exact science. You remind me a lot of “Bear” Bryant & Bobby Dodd. They never had very good teams. Looking forward to seeing you guys this week.

  13. Great video and song guys. Was that Norwood in the video? He may want to change careers from bus driver to acting. Great job.

  14. Be sure & checkout uTube & see the latest video of DLQ singing ‘Gone Home’. Joe Dean sings bass and
Doyle picks his old guitar finger style and Carter ‘scarch’.

  15. Another year gone by way too quickly!! Adam and I had a great time in the golf tournament playing with LD and Sam. As usual, Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver were superb. Corey, Mike, Josh, Joe, Jason: You guys are awesome musicians and vocalists, and once again have demonstrated that Doyle settles for nothing less than top quality, not only in talent but in character. You are the best of the bast and we thank you for your hard work, and for your friendship…. Looking forward to seeing you again soon…

  16. I have 3 size medium shirts from the festival that I can send to anyone who would like one. They are $15, light gray, with a guitar and a bird on the front chest in brown/blk, and a list of the bands that appeared on the back. Shoot me an email if you are interested. dlqkslvr@doylelawson.com

    • Sister,

I don’t think a medium will fit. I had a great time at Denton. Hope to see you and the group soon.

  17. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the festival at Denton. We especially enjoyed the Meet & Greet with DL&Q. We appreciate the band taking time to talk with the fans, and hope that will never changed. Doyle even took a minute to have his picture made with Sadie, our dog!
    Thanks again Doyle!

  18. We want to have some new shirts to sell on the road, but our shirt ideas are fresh out. Do any of you have any good ideas for a new shirt?

  19. Looking foward to Doyle & Quiksilver performing at Sheila Kay’s 4th Annual Outdoor Bluegrass Gospel Festival in Horse Cave, Ky. June 30,2012. Praying for good weather… Thanks Minnie

  20. Seen DL&QS yesterday at the Bluegrass festival in London, Ky and it was by far the best show I’ve ever seen! You guys rocked the festival in a Bluegrass way!! Please come back next year; we loved you!!! :)

  21. Doyle, your music has been loved and cherished for years just the way it was with your original sound. Why would you change it now with the drums? I don’t care who used drums in the past or who uses them now. It’s not your original sound. It’s not what made DL and Q famous. You might have made some new contemporary fans but you lost this one, my family, and many others who have loved your music for so long!

      • Have you seen a DL&Q performance this year? If so, you would see that drums are not present on stage with DL&Q.
I can tell you that if Doyle wants drums, he will have them, but he is currently not carrying drums as part of his concerts.

        • I’d like to say in a respectful way that I’m happy Doyle no longer has a drummer. I’ve been a huge fan since I was four years old and I LOVE the original sound just as much as everyone else here has written. I do see a very logical reason as to why Doyle added drums to the group in the first place. Part of it is due to the fact that he likes to expirement with his music. What a lot of people don’t understand is that many artists get tired of playing the same type of thing every day of the week so he is doing it in order to keep it interesting. It may have hurt his sound and maybe lost some fans, but I think it was an interesting concept to try.

          • For all you so called Quicksilver fans who keep complaining about the drums, please drop it. They are not in the show right now and it is Doyle’s business if they are. Are you so self centered and selfish that you cannot allow someone you claim to love the freedom to experiment with HIS MUSIC. It is fine to have a preference in what you like to hear; but when you say you are no longer a fan because he made one cd with drums on it then you just expose you were never really a fan at all. Thanks again Doyle for making music that has continually helped me keep my eyes on Jesus and thanks for being willing to take risks and step out of the box occasionally.

            Stacey

I would like to echo the statement that Stacey has made here. It’s ridicoulus that you are going to quit being a fan solely due to the fact that Doyle is conducting an expirementation. If you listen to the last two Quicksilver albums you will hardly ever notice the drums due to the fact that Carl White is using brushes as opposed to sticks. There is even a video on YouTube of them doing Blue Train while there were still drums in the group and I guarantee you that had you not seen Carl you would have mistakened the drums as Doyle’s mandolin chop. Here’s the link:
            http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SsNx5Nk-Fcc&safety_mode=true&persist_safety_mode=1

The bottom line is just because there is something that’s not normal, it shouldn’t mean you should stop being a fan or supporter. I would still be a huge fan even if Doyle had a tuba player!

  22. Doyle just called from Nashville. He had Sadie in the shop earlier today getting 6 new tires. After leaving the Loveless Cafe, Doyle said one of the tires started smoking so they stopped and had a man make a service call & pull the tires. They found nothing that would have caused the trouble so they replaced the tires and are headed out of town on their way to Branson, MO. Please pray for the safety of Doyle & all of the guys. Sadie hasn’t seemed to want to travel lately but we hope her new tires and several other new parts will make her feel like rolling down the toad and not giving Doyle anymore trouble.

    • Praying for them. Joe’s sister, aunt, grandparents and I(Mom) are in Branson now. We are so excited to see them. It will be our first time seeing their show since Joe was hired. Watched their performance tonight online. They sounded fantastic. Praying for their safe travels

        • Doyle had Joey Cox in the band for awhile and called him Joey. I think he feels Joe isn’t a long enough name and calls him Joe Dean when he speaks to me about Joe. Joe told us at Denton that he doesn’t want to be called Joe Dean. Just Joe. So we asked him what his middle name was and we are jokingly calling him Joe –. I am not filling in the blanks, but know that you, Tammy, as his Mama, know what we tease him with! Joe fits right in with the DL&Q family and we are so glad to have him.

          • When Joe came to work with DL&Q, we talked about how people call him Joe Dean and it’s like he doesn’t have a last name…they think those are his first and middle names, instead of his first and last names. One of those southern double name things! So we just call him Joe.

I understand that they WOWED them at Silver Dollar City yesterday!!!

          • Doyle called and said that they sang to 3 packed out houses at Branson yesterday. He said that they sang “Gone Home” again, featuring Joe on bass vocals, and he sounded great!
Doyle said that Joe’s family told them about a good seafood restaurant in Branson. Doyle said they put the address in their GPS and went right to the restaurant. He said the restaurant lost money on Mike, Swifty, Alan Mills, and Doyle eating crab legs and lobster. Doyle said it was so good and they were so hungry!

          • Made it home late last night from Branson. Exhausted, but so excited about the awesome opportunity Doyle has given Joe I saw DLQ at IBMA fan fest in Oct. and they sounded great, but their shows(yes we watched all 6 shows LOL) at SDC absolutely blew us away. Every show was full, and each show had folks that had never seen them before, so I know they made a lot of new fans. The arrangement and vocals on “Precious Memories” is so beautiful. If you hear them sing that and it doesn’t bring a tear to your eye there is something wrong with you. They did “Traveling Down the Blue Road”, and all I could think of was all the times we had listened and sang along with that song as we travelled with Joe to festivals when he was a teen. So I would say to all those that haven’t seen DLQ for a while, go see them. You will not be disappointed! Thanks to Doyle and the band for being so gracious to our family. They are first rate. We can’t wait to see them all again!

  23. Doyle didn’t say they had named the tire, but I’m sure he wanted to call it something! When he called early this morning he said that God had seen they to Branson safely and no more tire troubles, although there is a relay problem with something, Jason thinks.
They are singing at 11,1 and 3.
We thank you for your prayers!

  24. Thanks for sharing this video – all of us Powells (NINE now!) LOVE it. Where is that store? I believe we might have been there before, but we’ve had some discussion as to where it is.

  25. Hi All, Just wanted to make a comment about the ‘Country Store’ song/video. I enjoyed it a lot and very much liked the pickin and harmonies and lead singers voice.I don’t think folks should be too critical about the use of the drums – I personally think DLQ’s music is very enjoyable without them and would have preferred the sound of an acoustic double bass but people shouldn’t be abrasive/personal with their comments. Doyle comes across to me as a gentleman and a wonderful artist-I intend to keep enyoying his music and buying his CD’s. Take care everyone.

  26. I love the country store video, don’t care what instruments Doyle uses in his videos or cds you just don’t get any better than that. GOOD WORK DOYLE KEEP IT UP……….

  27. This post is intended for Ted in the thread above concerning Doyle with drums and not being traditional. It is apparent that Joe is not a long time Bluegrass fan or is just simply too young to understand Traditional Bluegrass music since Monroe, Flat and Scruggs and other “Traditional” bluegrass bands used drums.

  28. Denton was a blast this year capped off by one of the best church services anyone would want to attend. The DL&Q band is just simply great. The addition of Joe on the banjo and his vocals are a great asset. I really enjoyed the golf tournament and congrats to the Berber Team in their win.

  29. I think I’ve recovered from Denton by now. What a grest time we all had. Corey, Mike, Joe D.,Jason & Swifty, you made your boss proud. What a SUPER sound. Jason, thanks for taking time to show my friend some stuff on the fiddle. He’s still on cloud nine. Sister, Suzanne & the whole crew, thanks for a wonderful time. Stay safe & take care of Sadie.
    John

    • Hey Dannie. You’re right..Doc left a big whole and shoes to fill, that in my mind will never be filled. I learned Black Mountain Rag from a Doc and Merle album, not quite like Doc but….lol. Gonna miss him..another member in the Heavenly Bluegrass Band

      Keeping Alberta Quicksilvered,
      Charlie

  30. I have seen DLQ before and have listened to them nearly every Sunday morning growing up. This past Sunday I got to see them at DelFest. I know there was not a formal church service but the mixture of the songs, lyrics, memories and emotions I felt left me feeling touched and blessed. Thank you gentleman for sharing your talents and bringing gospel and tradition to new listeners.

  31. Dear Mr Doyle & the Quicksilvers,

my partner Iva and I have had the pleasure of meeting you last year in Germany
at the Bluegrass Festival in Buehl.
We have just listened to your newly recorded song Country store
and think it’s another absolutely fantastic tune!
All of you are such superb musicians and Iva and I are very grateful for the music you are producing.
We wish you all the best of luck for this year’s Diamond Awards and are looking forward
to seeing you playing live again real soon.

    Warm regards,

    Major Pit

  32. Hi Doyle & Susanne , I just heard from John that you have a few Instruments that you were thinking about selling , please give me some info and I’ll try to find a customer for you. Hope all is well , Bran

  33. Hey everyone. I was justing checking the touring dates and noticed the Bluegass Album Band has a few dates. Who does the lead singing as Tony’s not singing much these days? The albums are great, keeping the tradition of bluegrass in check. Thanks for now…

    Keeping Alberta Quicksilvered,
    Charlie

  34. Do you know about what time you will be performing at Fan Fair? I see that you will be on the Acoustic Corner. Will you be signing after? And will you be anywhere else that week? I have a party to go to Thurs. and would REALLY love to see you guys again! I HOPE to be back by about 2:30. Please say YES!

  35. OOPS! Sorry! Guess I should have checked the tour page first! Hope to be able to still catch up with you guys! Do you know where you will be signing? Will it be at the WSM booth? And will you need a ticket?

      • I would like to say I love Doyle Lawson&Quicksilver. My dad loved them like me but now he has gone home with the Lord. I would love to see Doyle make a soundtrack of Nothing Can Touch Me and There’s A Light Guiding Me. Me and my husband sing in church and have some of his soundtracks

  36. Why don’t you ever come to Texas? My husband & I love your music. My son is the owner of Ridge Instruments out of Pawnee Oklahoma, and builds all blue grass instruments. Hi blue grass band is Southbound Mule.
We are a music family, and travel to blue grass shows all over Texas and sometimes Oklahoma, we never see Doyle Lawson, boo hoo!

    • They do get to Texas now and then. They were there in March last year, at the Argyle Festival, and in Longview. If you are aware of any venues that are hosting bluegrass and/or gospel, let me know and I’ll give them a call!

  37. Enjoyed the concert in Cullman Fri night. Especially appreciated Joe and Jason’s efforts. They had all of their notes in just the right places. Jason is a very tastefull fiddle player. He knows what to play and when to play it. I bought the lastest CD. My favorite songs from it are Never Shall Run Dry and Be Not Afraid. Thank you all for a great night of Bluegrass.

    • Susan, glad you enjoyed the Cullman show, and those are my 2 favorite songs too! Jason, Joe and all the guys do a beautiful job.. Doyle makes perfection look as easy as falling off a log! Thankful we get to enjoy the music : ) Have a great weekend!

  38. I just love Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver very, very much! & I see them at Claremore, Oklahoma every year in Setpmeber.
    I allmost all of his CD’s.& I have two DVD’s & three T-shirt’s.

  39. Doyle if you let Cory drive any time dont let him pull into McDonalds he will lock his keys up in the vehicle, He gets excided about Happy Meals, You guys are great and cant wait to her and see yall in Bristol. Were watchen the place for ya BE SAFE.

  40. My Dad and I love this song. The concept of the video is very simple yet looks very nice and easy on the eyes. This song has a cool vibe, I love the guitar and vocals, and the country ‘store’ is very colorful!

  41. Today, June 24th, is the anniversary of our friends Lee & Kathy Hendrix from Satesboro, GA.
Kevin McKinnon, runs sound for DLQ, married Kendra Coomes today in a lakeside service at Hungry Mother State Park. Doyle and I went to the wedding and them came back home.
Today is also our anniversary, number 34. I am glad that my sweetheart is home today, unlike 34 years ago when we got married!

  42. I live by Onoway, Alberta, Canada. About a half hour from Edmonton, Alberta. I was wonder’n if you would ever play up this way?

    • Hey Jody. You’ve missed it!! Doyle and the gand have been there and gone..twice!! They have played the Bluebery Bluegrass in Stony plane twice. I live in Red Deer and have seen them both times. Don’t miss the next time, they are awesome!! If you’re a picker and singer, I’d love to get together and pick sometime..take care..

      Keeping Alberta Quicksilvered,
      Charlie

  43. Hi…
Last night some friends and I visited a sister from their church who is dying. Her close friend heard your song “In Your Arms”‘, and it has become their theme song. A group has been singing it together, but haven’t been able to find sheet music. Where can we purchase the sheet music (with words)? For piano and/or guitar. If you at least know the publishing company, I might be able to contact them myself. Any information you can provide will be appreciated.

    Elaine Graf

  44. Given the hot temperature today in Horse Cave, Kentucky. You guess didn’t let up a bit. Thanks for two great shows!!!

  45. Great show at Horse Cave by Doyle and the boys! There was banjo player filling in for Joe Dean, I think his name was Daniel, and he played great. It astounds me that with a guy subbing on banjo, and extreme heat, Doyle and the band continued to shine. Doyle always puts on a quality show!

  46. I want to thank everyone who braved the heat this past Saturday and came to see us. 105+ temperature is a bit rough but it was just as hot for you folks. Everyone seemed to enjoy us in spite of the heat. Thank you all from the hearts of all of DL&Q.

  47. Look, you guys are just gonna have to give us “Bluegrass Hungery” guys here in South Africa a visit!!! (Gospel of course!) God Bless!

  48. banjos and dobros aren’t bluegrass instruments either, technically. not to mention spoons and washboards. But if somebody does some music that stretches a genre just a little bit, all hell breaks loose. this song sounds great, and if a flower, a child, an idea, or a form of muisic isn’t allowed to grow, IT DIES. WILL THE BLUEGRASS POLICE PLEASE GO BACK TO THE STATION? THANKS DOYLE FOR THE tradional without being repetitive.
    Doug Swafford

  49. Doyle and Quicksilver,

We saw you all at the M.A.C.C. tonight. You all were awsome!!! I loved the end when it was Doyle, jd, bradley, michael, josh, and the rest all on stage, I could have listen to you guys all night. good luck in MI. and I will see you again at the Richwood Opry.
